About

“First described by scientist Isaac Newton in the 1600s, the laws of motion are physical principles that govern the way objects move. The laws are the inspiration for this suite, which lasts a total of seven minutes in three movements. ‘Equal and Opposite Reactions’ reflects Newton’s third law of motion: for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. ‘Force = Mass × Acceleration’ reflects Newton’s second law of motion: the force of an object is equal to its mass multiplied by its acceleration. ‘Unbalanced Forces’ reflects Newton’s first law of motion which states that a stationary object will remain at rest unless acted upon by an external force.

The Laws of Motion was composed for the Ku-Ring-Gai Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2020 Composer Development Program. It was a finalist in the international Tampa Bay Symphony Orchestra Composition Competition. This recording comes from a workshop by the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Orchestra on 20 May 2021.”
